Welcome to the Fairy Pages! A creative writing/study/hypothesis of the world of the fae, modernized knowledge of it, and a conceptualization of what it might be and how it may hold influence if involved in our reality.

Here we will explore many aspects of what the Fae are, what their different types and classifications are, what they do, where they are, and any other aspects I feel may be important to know. This is not a scientifically proven or peer reviewed piece. What these pages are is up to you. Feel free to comment and I hope you enjoy the journey as you join me through this exploration.

What are the Fae (Fairy Folk)?

The term fairy is now used to generally describe a mysterious creature, typically small in size, mischievous or childish in nature, and very magical. Throughout history, fairies were used to describe the unexplainable, the weird, and the mysterious. They were also used to teach lessons, entertain, and give hopes, fears, answers, and concepts to the world around them. They helped humanity wrap its head around tragedy, confusion, and mystery. Today, the largest concepts of fairies are likely from the Disney media, such as Pixie Hollow. While Disney has shut down that franchise largely (as of this writing,) they still use their iconic fairy figure, Tinkerbell, who came from the story of Peter Pan. Interstingly, Peter Pan is a fae figure himself. But, that's a story for another time

Believe it or not, fairies have come from all around the world. Creatures of similar nature and appearances were everywhere, in many cultures, and always viewed as things to be aware of. They were seen as spirits, angels, demons, monsters, and beings of otherworldly origin. Today, fairies and their stories primarily come from European cultures, specifically rooted in the Scottish, Irish, Gealic, Early Germanic, French, and Norse cultures. (At least the ones i'm speaking about) For the sake of these pages though, we will be using my definition of a fairy. A "magical" creature of ethereal, or spiritual energy, who is typically invisible to us, but influencing the world around us and our interpretations of it.

Where are they today?

Everywhere and no where, simultaneously. You see, the fairy (ethereal) lives beyond our plane of existence by a very short distance, yet are intertwined in our reality through influences, beliefs, and the very energies that make up life. They are invisible to us as we cannot see their reality, just as we cannot see spirits or energies that flow around us, or see the greater hand of God that dictates what happens, or even the wind that blows in the branches of the trees. We only see our own reality. But, that doesn't mean they are always invisible to us. Just as we can see other forms of demons, angels, spirits, and so on on different occasions, the fae can step closer to our reality and become visible to us. Although it is fleeting, it has occurred. Where do you think all those real-life ghost stories come from? It may even be worth considering why they do this. If you want to see it from my perspective, a perspective of a Christian who wants to believe in the fairies, I believe they are much like the angels of God. Creatures who can influence the world around us, whisper to us, bring messages and bring forth the will of God through their actions. They take on forms we can comprehend at our current state (which is why they historically are seen as shape shifting beings.) They use their own reality to manipulate our own, only coming forth when we need something much more obvious. We can be completely oblivious to it, just as we can be oblivious to the evil in the world, or we can choose to make a theory. And that's what I'm doing here. Fantasy or reality, that is up to you.

How do they influence our world?

In traditional stories, we see the fae directly impact the reality of our protagonists and antagonists, interacting with them in a very obvious manner, using their magic to change fates and patterns, riddles to occupy the minds and benefit their own, and so on. But in a more basic setting, it is possible the fae are the ones responsible for some mundane things, like the dryer that eats your socks, or that pencil that disappears into some void under your desk. Perhaps they are the source of the clicking and ticking you hear of a clock, of which you do not own, or the cause of that drifting item landing right before you and changing your perspective. The Fairies are part of the little things of life, the little unseen details that set everything in motion, the tiny things that make the biggest of differences... Kind of like how a smile to a stranger can make a strangers day.

What is Fairy Magic?

Fairy magic, in our sense, is a part of the ethereal I mentioned previously.  As some of you may know, magic is more spiritual than media tends to convey. In the sense of the magic of the fae, I would argue, it is like a pen to a book, it can change the story, fueled by the limits of imagination and understanding. In this concept of magic, it is not defined by type, such as elemental magic is. It is as powerful as the mind of the beholder, much like how you can control a dream. I can evaluate some more. Potentially, there's a whole world around us, made of an invisible energy that regularly influences every aspect of our own lives down to the atomic level. Some say it's anti-matter, the ethereal, spirit/soul energy, the strings of reality that no one can see, the forces beyond that make the world work, magic, and so on. As of this writing, this matter, this energy, is incomprehensible to us, untangable, and undefined. It is the magic the fairy use in their realm, and ours, to make things go their way. This magic is powerful, it is present, but it is not for the humans, lest we lose our minds and souls to it. I suppose there's no defined answer for "what" the magic is exactly. For our purposes, we will be using the definition of it being an energy which is coming from spirit, that can alter the reality and world around us and is capable of many things. Like the pen to a book example.
